ADR Training - don't miss out!
What is ADR Training?
Under the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (as amended), all drivers require training and instruction.
Under regulation 24, certain drivers of road vehicles carrying dangerous goods may need to hold a vocational training certificate (VTC).
What does the training course involve?
The course runs over 5 days and is broken down into modules covering the following topics:
-
ADR Core
-
Packages
-
Classes 2-6
-
Classes 8 & 9
-
Tankers
On day 5 you will sit multiple choice exams in the relevant modules. Once these papers have been sent to SQA for marking and you have successfully passed the modules, you will receive your photocard ADR Licence, which is valid for 5 years.
How do I know if I need the training?
Drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods who may fall within this requirement are:
-
A road tanker containing any dangerous goods;
-
A vehicle carrying a tank container loaded with dangerous goods;
-
A vehicle carrying dangerous goods in bulk;
-
A vehicle carrying radioactive material;
-
A vehicle carrying dangerous goods in packages, if these goods are over certain thresholds for those particular goods
What will I get out of the training?
By attending the full ADR course, this will earn you 28 hours towards your Driver CPC. Remember – although the deadline for the first period has passed, you will still need to achieve another 35 hours before 2019. We would strongly recommended getting your hours early to avoid the rush that will inevitably occur in 2019. Not only that, but by gaining your ADR qualification you will be enhancing you employment prospects, as an ADR licence is something a lot of employers are now looking for.
